Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarity

I've read a lot of books since my last post, but for some reason they haven't been updating to the blog from my goodreads account. I have zero web knowledge, so I'm not sure why, but here's my last review, and will have to copy and paste them from now on...I think.

Big Little LiesBig Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Many likable characters. Some that were highly entertaining. Some that drove me crazy. Funny approach to a scary subject. Even though the book is long, it read quickly, and I wanted to know what was going to happen next.

Sarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay

Sarah's KeySarah's Key by Tatiana de Rosnay
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Finished this book in 1.5 days. I like that it's less than 300 pages. I also love the short chapters. But the content. Wow. I had no idea about the historical context of Paris' involvement during WWII. I want to go back to Paris and visit the places that are talked about. Great read.

Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil

Midnight In The Garden Of Good And EvilMidnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil by John Berendt
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I am a quick reader and it took me a while to finish this book because I just couldn't get into it. I love Savannah, and I could imagine the squares and cemeteries as described in the book, and I really, really wanted to love this story. There were definitely a list of entertaining characters throughout, but I would sometimes forget who they were and how they fit into the story. I know this book was very popular in the mid-late '90s, but for me it was just okay. P.S. I never saw the movie.

The Middle Place by Kelly Corrigan

This is my Vines and Spines May book. It's a true story about a woman who is diagnosed with breast cancer in her 30s with a husband and two young children at home. Her dad is also diagnosed with cancer, for the third time, during her treatment. I really like her writing style. It was a quick, easy read and I even went to her website to see if Greenie is still alive (he is!). Many people are affected by cancer during the course of their lives, so I found myself thinking about the people in my family who have dealt with the disease and came back to the book wanting more, along with a happy ending. Kelly is a strong woman, and talented writer.

The Murderer's Daughters

The Murderer's DaughtersThe Murderer's Daughters by Randy Susan Meyers
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This was a quick, easy read. It did get a little boring toward the middle because it's the same thing over and over as the sisters age...one loves their dad, the other acts like he doesn't exist. I read it over the weekend and enjoyed it enough to keep reading while Monsters, Inc., Lady and the Tramp, or any other Disney/Pixar movie was playing in the background

The Department of Lost & Found

The Department of Lost & Found by Allison Winn Scotch

Book is about a 30 year old who is diagnosed with breast cancer and is evaluating the five loves of her life as she goes through chemo.  She ends up evaluating more than just her loves, she also takes a look at her career with a high profile Senator.

Started this book on Friday night and finished it Saturday morning.  I love Scotch's writing style...easy to read, fluid, quick.  Book is somewhat predictable, but I was okay with that!  Book club books have been a bit more on the serious side lately, so this one was refreshing.  And the fact that there is a happy ending, I liked that too.  Some people don't like to read books that are wrapped up in a nice little package, but I don't mind that at all.  Go read it.
